Question 1

Which Balatro file should I upload?

Accepted Answer

Upload save.jkr to change the run you are in the middle of (money, hands, discards, ante, reroll cost). Upload meta.jkr to unlock or discover the collection. profile.jkr holds career stats and is not supported yet. All three sit together in the profile folder — 1, 2 or 3, matching the profile you play on.

Question 2

How do I put the edited file back?

Accepted Answer

Quit Balatro completely, copy the original file somewhere safe, then replace it with the downloaded one (same name, same folder). Start the game and continue your run or open the collection.

Question 3

My changes disappeared after starting the game. Why?

Accepted Answer

Usually Steam Cloud: if the cloud copy looks newer, Steam can restore it over your edited file. Turn off Steam Cloud for Balatro (right-click Balatro in your library → Properties → General) while you edit, or make sure Steam has fully closed the game before you replace the file.

Question 4

What format is a .jkr file?

Accepted Answer

A .jkr file is Lua source text — a single "return { ... }" table — compressed with raw DEFLATE. There is no encryption. This editor decompresses it, changes only the numbers you edit, and compresses it again; every other byte of the save text is left exactly as the game wrote it.

Question 5

Why are some fields greyed out?

Accepted Answer

The game only writes some values at certain points — for example hands and discards left exist while a round is in progress. If a value is not in your save the editor will not invent it.

Question 6

Does this work for the mobile or console versions?

Accepted Answer

No. It is built for the PC/Mac (Steam) version. Mobile and console versions store saves where you cannot normally reach them.

Question 7

Is my save uploaded to a server?

Accepted Answer

No. Decompressing, editing and recompressing all happen in your browser — your file never leaves your device. You can confirm this in your browser's Network tab.
